Everything You Need to Know Before Starting Therapy or Group Coaching

Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions About Online Therapy and Group Coaching

  • Therapy is a regulated service that requires a professional license in each state where clients are located. I’m licensed to provide therapy in California and Virginia, which means I can only offer therapy to clients physically located in those states.

Coaching, however, is not regulated in the same way and does not require a state-specific license. This allows me to offer parent coaching to clients across the U.S., as long as we're working within the scope of coaching (not clinical therapy). If you're unsure which service is right for you, I’m happy to talk through the options during a consultation.

  • If you're feeling overwhelmed, stuck, disconnected, or unsure how to navigate life’s challenges, therapy might be the support you need. Whether you're new to therapy or returning to it, I offer a free consultation so we can explore together whether it’s the right fit for your current needs.

  • I currently offer therapy via secure telehealth only. This allows for flexible, accessible support from the comfort of your own space.

  • Yes. Your privacy is deeply respected and protected. Everything we discuss in session is confidential, with a few legal exceptions (such as risk of harm to yourself or others). I’ll review confidentiality and its limits in detail during our first session so you feel fully informed and safe.

  • Our first session will feel relaxed and conversational. It’s a time for me to get to know you—your experiences, your view of therapy, and what you hope to gain. I don’t rush into solutions because meaningful healing begins with trust, context, and connection. Over time, we’ll explore the parts of you that have felt pushed aside and work toward inner clarity and integration.

  • Every client is different. Some experience noticeable changes within 12–16 sessions, while others benefit from ongoing support over months or years. We’ll regularly check in on your goals and progress.

  • Therapy sessions are 55 minutes long. This allows us enough time to explore your concerns in depth while creating space for reflection and emotional processing.

  • Most clients begin with weekly sessions to build consistency, safety, and momentum. As progress is made, we may move to biweekly or another cadence that supports your growth and goals. We’ll collaborate to find the right pace for you.

  • For Individual Therapy: $135 per 55-minute session. For Couples Therapy: $160 per 55-minute session. For Family Therapy: $160 per 55-minute session

  • I accept major credit and debit cards including Visa, Mastercard, and American Express. I also accept FSA, HSA, and HRA cards. Please note that prepaid cards, cashier’s checks, and cards issued by foreign banks are not accepted at this time.

  • I’m in-network with several California insurance plans: Aetna, Blue Shield of California, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts, Cigna, Horizon BCBS of New Jersey, Magellan, and Quest Behavioral Health.

For Virginia clients, I offer private pay. Many PPO plans include out-of-network benefits that may cover part of your sessions. I’m happy to provide a superbill through Thrizer and can even help check your out-of-network benefits in real time during our consultation.

  • Here are some helpful questions to ask your insurance provider if you’re using out-of-network benefits:

    • Are mental health services included in my coverage?

    • Does my plan cover visits to out-of-network providers?

    • What is the coverage amount per therapy session?

    • How does my deductible apply to out-of-network services?

    • Does my plan cover a certain number of therapy sessions per year?

    • What is the average timeframe for processing superbill claims?

  • Please email for sliding scale care. I only accept a limited amount of clients for this.

  • Yes, coming soon! Stay tuned for the annoucement!

  • Therapy often focuses on healing past wounds, clinical mental health concerns, or emotional struggles, while coaching is future-focused and growth-oriented. My coaching program helps you build practical skills for emotional connection and regulation with your child. Coaching is not a clinical service, but it’s deeply supportive and action-based.

  • Not at all—and in fact, coaching isn’t meant for crisis situations. This space is designed for parents who want to be proactive, not reactive—those seeking growth, not emergency support. You don’t have to wait until something goes wrong to get help. Coaching is about learning tools now to foster connection, confidence, and calm in your parenting journey.

  • I require 24 hours’ notice to cancel or reschedule appointments. Missed sessions or cancellations with less than 24 hours’ notice will be charged a full session fee of $135 unless due to illness or emergency and excused by your therapist.
